Dan Peisach (trombone, also known as "Twas") has always had a strong passion for groups that mixed contrasting musical styles in interesting and tasteful ways. It's a "you got your peanut butter in my chocolate" sort of thing. Living in Boston, he wondered whether klezmer music could work for a contra dance and created the first (that he is aware of) klezmer-contra dance band. Now that Dan lives in Ann Arbor, he decided to do it again, and thus "'Twas Brillig and the Mazel-Toves" was born. With a plethora of instruments to paint a complex musical picture, the group is well versed in contra dance, international dance, and klezmer dance music.
One of these days we'll record a demo CD, but until then you can listen to us playing live for a contra at the Dawn Dance 2005 festival. (Thanks for the recording, Shaun!)
